2013 Chinese New Year Celebration by Local Community

You may feel the holiday season is winding down after the New Year’s Day of 2013. But do you realize that the Chinese New Year is just around the corner? The exact date for 2013 Chinese New Year is Saturday, Feb. 10th. The Chinese New Year, also known as ‘Spring Festival’, is the longest and the most important festivity in Chinese culture.

With ever increasing Chinese population in the Greater Lansing area, it becomes mandatory to get the Chinese heritage together with local communities to celebrate such an important festival. Therefore, the Greater Lansing Chinese Association is working with Meridian Township and other local Chinese organizations such as MSU Chinese Students and Scholar Association, MSU Chinese Undergraduate Student Association, MSU Chinese School, Greater Lansing Area Taiwanese Association and Lansing Buddhism Association etc. to hold a grand celebration event at Meridian Mall in Okemos, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, on Feb 9th.

This event will be launched by a parade with traditional Chinese gathering such as lion dance, fashion dress show, martial arts, and Taichi etc.. Fantastic performances including Chinese folk music, solos, dances and yoyo etc. will be put on the Center stage in the mall. Along with these activities, there will be a large diverse of table displays showing typical Chinese cultural artifacts such as Chinese paintings, calligraphy, paper cut, peking opera, music instruments, and many games.
